About Me

I’m Shunya Shigeoka, a student at Hult International Business School who is deeply interested in how people, organizations, and communities can work better together.
My background includes operations and management experience at Kura Sushi, where I was involved in supporting large-scale operations. I contributed to the management of a more then 500-person operation and the operation of a central kitchen serving over 250 stores across Japan. Through this experience, I learned the importance of trust, communication, and responsibility when working with diverse teams in fast-paced environments.
I believe that good decisions should be both human and rational. While I value empathy, collaboration, and long-term relationships, I also strongly believe in making decisions based on numbers and data to ensure fairness, clarity, and sustainable outcomes. For me, analytics is not about replacing people, but about supporting better judgment.

Vision

My vision is: to provide or help create a world where people can live together safely, with dignity, without fear—but also feeling connected.” In the future, “I would like to develop a business related to perhaps operating a hostel or guesthouse not only for providing people with accommodations but for providing people with an environment where people with differing personality types can meet, people can be inspired, can share.”
Despite the ease of technology and social networks that allow people to be connected, I am a firm believer that the best means of forming a relationship, or feeling happiness, can only be attained through meeting people in the flesh.

Drawing from Japan’s experience where citizens can feel safe in their urban environments at night—a privilege that I cherish—they should be treated by addressing the societal issues of homelessness and inequality in the same way that they are treated in Japan rather than being seen and treated solely as culprits. I firmly believe that business influence is needed in addition to the influence of the governmental and nongovernmental organizations that are already working in this area.
But to make this vision a reality, I would like to integrate data analysis and psychology. Through my data analysis experience, I have seen the power of decision-making through data, trends, and operational analysis, while psychology brings a perspective that helps me understand the way people think, feel, and associate. By merging data analysis and psychology, my goal is to develop spaces and business that resonate with people, engage people through real-life experiences, and bring a positive change in society.
